Amigo Cafe
About this place
Amigo Cafe sits on US Highway 163 in Kayenta, Arizona, inside the Navajo Nation and on the route to Monument Valley. Richard and Esther Martinez opened it in 1983, and it serves a mix of Mexican, Native American and American food.
The cafe is known for dishes you will not find in most Mexican restaurants: the Three Sisters Burrito, a Navajo shrimp taco made with blue corn, lamb tostadas, pozole and fry bread served hot and fluffy. The menu also covers nachos, taquitos, burritos, quesadillas and burgers.
The walls are painted with murals in warm earth tones and sky turquoise. The restaurant has been mentioned in the press and in a list of the best restaurants in Arizona, and it got another boost after appearing on a Chef Robert Irvine TV show, which made it an easy stop for travelers heading to Monument Valley.
Amigo Cafe is open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 AM to 8 PM and can be reached at (928) 697-8448. It has its own website at amigocafekayenta.com.
